Ebony knows two things. Her guardians will protect her with their lives. She must escape from this house or she’ll go crazy.
She might be going crazy anyway.
The nightmares are getting worse, and the walls are closing in – not just the walls of the house, but the walls created by the holes in her memory. Ebony knows there is more at stake than just her life. If she could only remember… remember why someone wants to kill her. Why she had to go into hiding in the first place.
She trusts her guardians with her life, but she doesn’t trust them to let her live it. Ebony knows she should be grateful, but there is an itch in her bones, a call in the night, luring her outside the safety of their home.
Ebony knows one thing: she can’t resist it for much longer.

I folded another tee and stacked it on the pile. With eight of us in the house the washing was a never ending chore, and I was the dumb-ass in charge of it. At least it got me out of cooking. Rafe was so much better at that than me anyway.

I looked into the kitchen where he was stirring the pasta sauce, his focus purely on the food. He had bread baking in the oven and the yeasty smell made my mouth water. Rafe wasn’t so bad himself either, he had an apron on over his shirt and jeans, and his blond hair slicked back. I could see his arm muscles twitch as he stirred and stirred.

I loved watching him cook – which was why I folded the washing at the dining table. He wasn’t much for conversation but the view helped me get through the mundane task.

Sheehan was next door watching the news with the sound turned off.

It was an unspoken rule. Don’t let Ebony watch the news. Don’t expose Ebony to things that might trigger flashbacks.

Except that I didn’t really know what the trauma was. Didn’t know what to expect if something was triggered. There was a cone of silence around me, a bubble that kept out the real world, and it was built of men.

Hot, kind, loving men. But it was still a bubble and all bubbles had to pop eventually, right?

And if they didn’t pop it soon, I was going to. I couldn’t stand the not knowing. I looked out the window longingly to the world I couldn’t remember, the world I’d never know until this was all over.

“Earth to Ebony…” Rafe said.

“Huh?” I snapped out of my thoughts and turned to him. “What’s up?”

“Can you go and pick some parsley from the garden? You know which one that is right?” He gave me a mock serious look, but I could see the grin beneath it.

I finished folding the towel and put it on the right pile, then poked my tongue out at him as I headed to the kitchen door. He flicked the tea towel in my direction, catching me on the hip, my squeal forcing a laugh out of him.

That man…

Actually, all of those men.

I pushed through the door, wondering how I got so lucky. Whoever was after me almost killed me once before, and these guys were doing everything in their power to make sure that didn’t happen again.

I just wished they’d tell me more, or catch the bastard so I could have some semblance of a normal life.

Author Bio

Nova Blake is a romance author from New Zealand, and Ebony Slumbers is her debut release. She loves binging shows on Netflix with her husband, hanging out with her abundance of animals and kids, and enjoying life as best she can. If she’s not writing, or doing any of the above Blake’s probably sleeping because Lord knows she doesn’t get enough of that. While she tries very hard to spend more of her time writing than on social media, you can probably find out more at her website, Pinterest, or Facebook. Hey, with all her animals and children it’s no wonder she gets anything done!

Raven Elliot blasts into town like a wrecking ball—striking and devastating.
With a few simple words, my reliable routine crumbles to dust.

“Is this seat taken?”

I could close my eyes and let her voice wrap around me like a lover’s caress.
But this isn’t that kind of story.
And I’m sure as hell not that kind of man.

She hovers in my space, batting her lashes and smiling shyly.
The glimmer in her sapphire eyes is a promise of peace.
But I’m not falling for it.
And Raven doesn’t take the hint.

What starts as a battle of wills, explodes into a turf war.
She stands directly in my path everywhere I turn.
No matter how hard I shove, she won’t budge.
Raven seems dead set on driving me insane.
But I was here first.
And I’m not going down easy.

After all, no one ever taught me how to treat a lady.

REVIEW: Alivia Grayson *The One I Need*

Posted in Books at 5:12 PM by Rockin' Rita

Nova comes to find her father, the head of Snakes Henchmen MC, and finds the love of her life in Tank and a family with the club. But she has a couple of secrets which may be a deal breaker for most men. Is Tank one of them or is he a man with the heart of gold??1

5 roaring stars

I absolutely loved this book. Ms. Grayson really took the time to develop these characters and their world and it shows. I’ve never before read a MC book so I personally cannot compare it to others however multiple beta readers have said it reads much better than your average because of how well thought out so the details are. I am not a big fan of new adult or motorcycle club books but the plot was so good it kept me wanting more! I read it in a span of 3 days (a very short time for me speaking that I am very busy and get distracted easily). Looking forward to book 2!

Graphic/intense sex scenes
Heavy use of foul language
Strong female characters who are feminine but can take care of themselves
Extra sexy book boyfriends

Age 18+

Alivia Grayson is an author of bad boy romances. As a deaf author, she has had to overcome the stigma that she couldn’t do all the things a hearing person could. Originally from London, England, Alivia is a teacher of history, a tattoo artist, and an author. With a busy life, writing is her getaway from it all. This is her debut novel.

¶Writing has always been a hobby and cathartic experience for me. Turning my passion into something that takes me far away in my mind. Books have always been my escape from the world around me. As a deaf author, I have faced many hurdles in life. But I fully believe that nothing can hold you back if you put your mind to it. It takes just one person to believe in you and your dream and you can fly. Never give up, prove everyone wrong. You. Can. Be. Anything!

I’ve written my butt off to publish my first book, constantly educating myself with new ideas and challenging myself with different writing techniques.
Writing what I know, my life experiences, and turning them into stories you’ll love to read is what it’s all about for me. I write anything from Motorcycle Clubs to Mafia to good old second change, even first chance romance. Which I hope you’ll enjoy.

Much love, Alivia x¶2

The Snakes Henchmen MC run a tight ship. We live by rules that are older than most of our members. Don’t hurt your woman or kids. Protect the innocent, take out the filth of the world. Our business is our own, we don’t need outside help from anyone. Ever!

Another rule is that you don’t go after the Prez’s daughter by pain of death. That’s fine by me, Willow is like a sister to me. But I didn’t bank on little Miss Nova returning after fifteen years. I didn’t bank on her stealing my heart. But now I have her, I’ll do anything to keep her.
No matter what it takes.

Fifteen years I have longed to find the father my mother said was dead. When she finally gave up the truth, I knew I had to seek him out. My big brother too. I didn’t bank on finding four extra siblings and a stepmom.

I also didn’t bank on the giant of a man that has my panties in a twist every time I look at him. Tank is everything I swore I never wanted but everything I seem to need.

He says he loves me, but how can he love a woman he’ll never really know?

Because the secret I hide from Tank and the Snakes Henchmen is one I must take to the grave.

He’s becoming really obvious.

The mystery man is here again, hidden in the shadows and out of clear sight, but I’m catching onto him.
After noticing him standing behind me the other day, the dark stranger has been appearing everywhere lately. I’m pretty sure this guy wants to get caught. Perhaps he’s been hanging nearby a lot longer and I’m just realizing it. My pulse beats wildly, the whooshing pounding in my ears as I continue watching him. This reaction isn’t from fear but rather a startling awareness of his recurring presence. I’m not scared of him, though most might be, and the need to know why snakes through my system.
We’ve been playing an intense game of hide-and-seek since that afternoon outside Aire Gardens almost a week ago. I’ll go somewhere—my studio, Brewed Awakenings, around campus, my apartment—and after settling in, begin searching for him. He’s always there, waiting to be spotted. Each time I find him, my belly tightens as a smile lights up my face. Discovering him out there, lingering in the background, has become something I really look forward to.
How didn’t I notice sooner?
Perhaps it’s my total inexperience with dating, and the opposite sex in general, that has me getting far too attached to these moments. I’m getting wrapped up in the fantasy of him, of what he represents. This stranger—Seek is what I’ve started calling him—is the closest thing to a boyfriend I’ve ever had. I find myself daydreaming about him, wondering who he really is, when did he find me, and most importantly—why me?
I press my palm flat against the cool glass and stare at him leaning against the large oak tree outside the Student Center. My thoughts are becoming more and more consumed with a guy I don’t even know—at least not really. Yet it seems like I do.

Procrastinator’s Guide to the New Year

Posted in Books at 4:16 PM by Rockin' Rita

Welcome to another year at
The Procrastinate Reader!

Being “A Different Kind of Book Blog” I wanted to start off the new year a little differently, and no, I did not mean by being late with this post. That just kinda happened. Such is the life of a chronic procrastinator who happens to get distracted way to often. Anyway, let’s not procrastinate any further…

Blog Resolutions

  • post more often (or at least not go back into hiatus for months at a time)
  • gain active followers
  • have more followers comment
  • introduce new features (see next post for one new feature)
  • actually review books
  • post updates on what I’m reading
  • highlight indie authors
  • have bloggers, readers, authors, etc. guest post
  • don’t let life get in the way of blogging
  • blog for the fun of it…sure having followers increase is great, but that shouldn’t become the reason to blog

Reading Goals

  • read as many books as I can
  • write reviews (even if I don’t intend to post as a blog entry right away) as soon as I finish the book
  • don’t join reading challenges- just read, read, read
  • don’t forget about reading and reviewing eARCs sent by authors
  • step away from the tv and pick up a book (or ebook) once in a while
  • don’t let life get in the way of reading!

Other Bookish Goals for 2018

  • update facebook fan page whenever posting anything online about books, not just when there’s a new blog post
  • do some spring cleaning of twitter following and facebook friends lists (kinda both a general and bookish goal)
  • keep up with bookstagramming (and foodstagraming)
  • set up that booktube account (http://youtube.com/RockinRitaBlogs)
  • go to book launches and take pics (for bookstagram) and video (for booktube)
  • shop indie (especially author’s indie stores) when buying new books
  • keep participating in bookish chats
  • get more active in street teams
  • write down goals as I think of them so I procrastinate a little less
So there you have it folks, that’s a few of my goals and resolutions I have for TPR, reading, and a few other bookish things for this year.
Do you have any resolutions or goals for your blogs, bookstagram, booktube or reading lists? Share them in the comments below!

Re-launch Day– Forget Me Not!!!

Posted in book birthdays, Books at 3:55 PM by Rockin' Rita

It’s official!

TPR is back baby!!!

Yes…it’s for real this time! LOL.

First thing's first...
Welcome back, everyone!
I’ve missed you all so much and am so glad to be back blogging—book blogging (and hopefully something on *Random Ramblings* {the new name for *Rockin’ Randomness*} will come soon too. There are a lot of exciting things {including a bunch of interviews and a few new features} coming up for The Procrastinate Reader, so stay tuned!
And now, without further ado...
For those of you who don’t know, I am indie New Adult author Harloe Rae’s street team co-leader and **Harloe’s Hotties** have been working very hard to help get our fearless leader more spotlight.

Today is the release of Ms. Rae’s sophomore novel ‘Forget You Not’

***Forget You Not is the second book in Rae’s Reclusive duology. It can be read either as a stand-alone novel or as a sequel to her May 2017 debut Redefining Us.***

Destiny is bogus and fate is fake.
Everything happens for a reason?
I gave up on my fairy tale years ago.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not settling for less.
All my energy gets poured into a job I love rather than dead end relationships.
Men aren’t even a blip on my radar these days.
Who needs them?
Except to scratch the occasional itch, I’m not interested in anything they have to offer.

If so-called Cupid ever comes knocking on my door, I’ll be waiting with my flying pig because happily ever after doesn’t exist.
I’ve become a jaded disbeliever and my main reason just sauntered into the bar.
Rowen Sworr is the only arrow that pierced my heart, and dammit, he stuck.

His random reappearance is a complicated twist from that meddling matchmaker I didn’t see coming…

***Add Forget Me Not to your Goodreads TBR***

Thanks a billion...
I want to take a moment to say thanks to
each and every one of my followers/fans/friends
sticking by me these past several months while TPR has been M.I.A.
It really means a lot and I promise I will *try* to do a better job at posting here more often than before. I am very busy trying to start up a mini-business {details to come on –Random Ramblings–}, find a steady day job with flexible hours, and plowing through my constantly growing DVR and TBR piles.

What’s Up?

Posted in Books at 9:58 PM by Rockin' Rita

Hey everyone!

Hope all is going well with all of you! I’m so very sorry I’ve been MIA for so long. Thank you so much for sticking by me during this incredibly long (for me) unintentional hiatus. I want to take some time right now to thank my new followers for checking out my blog. It really means a lot to have your support. I hope you are enjoying the little bits I have posted so far and rest assured I am planning on getting back into blogging very soon!

I’ve been having an extremely busy year and have been working hard on my reading goals as well as getting a reasonable day job. I’m a member of 10 author street teams  (I think… I can’t keep up with how many I’m getting into) and have assisted Aubrie Nixon and Harloe Rae start their street teams. I am also speaking with recent debut author A. V. Geiger (Follow Me Back, Sourcebooks- 2017) and we’re in the early stages of planning her street team.

What’s been going on in your worlds and/or blogs lately? Can you believe we’ve already made it through more than half of 2017?

*Mackenzi Lee hosts a weekly series on her twitter (@mackenzilee) called #BygoneBadassBroads all about the women who helped to (and in some cases all by themselves) shape history!

**I met Mack at a book event last year (one of my first ever… I swear I’ll get the vid up on booktube one of these days soon) and instantly became a fan. We’ve kept in touch on social media ever since and she was thrilled that I wanted to not just support her but support her favorite local indie. Not knowing if /when she’ll come to my area again I asked if she’d be willing to sign my books and include a bookmark if possible and she totally agreed!!! (Ahhhhhh!! BRB fangirling. 😍📚😎)

Aubrie officially had to announce first on her blog but here’s some great news direct from her:

Now that I have signed a contract, its safe to announce this amazing news!I signed with an amazing publishing company! Winter Wolf Press! I have become part of the pack, and I am thrilled. Its a small press, and that means that I have an amazing team working closely with me. How cool is that? That means that the books I publish will get the attention they deserve.

I did have to pull what was known as Darkness Whispers from the shelves, so if you got a copy, YAY for you! If not, do not fret, the book is being reworked, revised, edited and reborn! It will be released under an different title, and I can’t wait to share it with you. This journey I am taking is going to be very exciting! I am so glad that I get to share it with you all.
