Who Wouldn’t Wanna Work with Kate Brauning?!

Posted in bookish opportunities, Books at 12:00 PM by Rockin' Rita

Before we get into detail about what could be the most amazing opportunity of your life, let me tell you a little about Ms. Brauning (in case you spend the majority of your days living under your massive TBR pile).

So, Who Is Kate Brauning?1

At fifteen Kate Brauning decided she wanted someone to find her own books by searching through the shelves of a library. She’s been writing ever since, and she’s not going to stop until she can no longer put one word after another. [Kate is the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed YA novel “How We Fall” (Merit Press, 2014)]

Kate has taught high school English, has taught fiction workshops at her library, and has worked with a literary agency and publishing houses. She loves attending writing conferences and book fairs, and is an associate editor at Entangled Publishing, where she works with young adult fiction. She’s also an advocate for domestic abuse victims and poverty eradication, and she volunteers with a grassroots nonprofit, One Body One Hope, which creates community-to-community relationships in Monrovia, Liberia, for infrastructure redevelopment and education.

The Opportunity of a Lifetime

So was browsing through bookish Twitter yesterday (by browsing I mean spending far more time than I should be. I swear it’s a trap LOL) and one of my favorite authors-whose-book-I-have-yet-to-read, Eric Smith, tweeted about a great opportunity fellow author Kate Brauning tweeted earlier.

So I read Kate’s status then followed it through to her feed and read the comments followed by the post, which can be found on Pit Hub and it really is such an amazing opportunity!

The gist of it (more elaborate details on Pit Hub):

  • Internships open with Kate at Entangled Publishing. POC,queer, neuroatypical, & disabled applicants encouraged.
  • It’s open-ended, so starting after the holidays and ending whenever you need.
  • Needs for students can potentially be accommodated.
  • It’s remote! You can live anywhere as long as there is regular internet.
  • If you have a way to download and read digital files and at least twice weekly internet access, please do [apply]!
  • [A summer internship may potentially] open up for a more YA focused one w/out (explicit adult), especially lgbt.
  • If you and Kate know each other from Twitter, say so! Include your handle if it’s not your name, so she won’t miss you.

So there you have it folks…

Go forth and apply for the opportunity of a lifetime!*
