Who Wouldn’t Wanna Work with Kate Brauning?!

Posted in bookish opportunities, Books at 12:00 PM by Rockin' Rita

Before we get into detail about what could be the most amazing opportunity of your life, let me tell you a little about Ms. Brauning (in case you spend the majority of your days living under your massive TBR pile).

So, Who Is Kate Brauning?1

At fifteen Kate Brauning decided she wanted someone to find her own books by searching through the shelves of a library. She’s been writing ever since, and she’s not going to stop until she can no longer put one word after another. [Kate is the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed YA novel “How We Fall” (Merit Press, 2014)]

Kate has taught high school English, has taught fiction workshops at her library, and has worked with a literary agency and publishing houses. She loves attending writing conferences and book fairs, and is an associate editor at Entangled Publishing, where she works with young adult fiction. She’s also an advocate for domestic abuse victims and poverty eradication, and she volunteers with a grassroots nonprofit, One Body One Hope, which creates community-to-community relationships in Monrovia, Liberia, for infrastructure redevelopment and education.

The Opportunity of a Lifetime

So was browsing through bookish Twitter yesterday (by browsing I mean spending far more time than I should be. I swear it’s a trap LOL) and one of my favorite authors-whose-book-I-have-yet-to-read, Eric Smith, tweeted about a great opportunity fellow author Kate Brauning tweeted earlier.

So I read Kate’s status then followed it through to her feed and read the comments followed by the post, which can be found on Pit Hub and it really is such an amazing opportunity!

The gist of it (more elaborate details on Pit Hub):

  • Internships open with Kate at Entangled Publishing. POC,queer, neuroatypical, & disabled applicants encouraged.
  • It’s open-ended, so starting after the holidays and ending whenever you need.
  • Needs for students can potentially be accommodated.
  • It’s remote! You can live anywhere as long as there is regular internet.
  • If you have a way to download and read digital files and at least twice weekly internet access, please do [apply]!
  • [A summer internship may potentially] open up for a more YA focused one w/out (explicit adult), especially lgbt.
  • If you and Kate know each other from Twitter, say so! Include your handle if it’s not your name, so she won’t miss you.

So there you have it folks…

Go forth and apply for the opportunity of a lifetime!*

Beat the Backlist/ #ThrowbackBookClub (Updated 12/17/2016)

Posted in Books, reading challenges at 11:06 AM by Rockin' Rita

The Beat the Backlist Challenge (further details can be found on NovelKnight’s site) is focused on knocking off titles that have been on your TBR for a while, or even ones that get pushed aside for new releases. Over the years, and especially this one, I’ve noticed that new releases are getting more and more attention while our TBRs continue to grow. And the polls I’ve seen/hosted have shown that readers also really want backlist title reviews (if that’s an added incentive to read more of them).

This challenge will run from January 1st to December 31st, 2017.

That’s right. You have en ENTIRE YEAR to complete your goal.

Books must be released prior to 2017

(this challenge isn’t for new releases)

That’s it!

Set your reading goal

Pick the books you want to read

This is more about you working toward decreasing your TBR stack alongside a bunch of other readers!

Post updates throughout the year with #beatthebacklist

Here’s my backlist (subject to change as I buy more):

clone tag: 92460406836498552

So I have 16 books as of right now and I’m really hopeful (and nervous) that I will get through at least the majority of them. I’m so excited for this is the first book challenge I have ever participated in! Thank you @NovelKnight for creating a challenge meant for a Procrastinate Reader like me! I’m super excited!

Also adding in my current reads and an ebook from an author I just met on Bookstagram.

The Additions

  • Darkness Whispers by Aubrie L. Nixon
  • Spells & Sorcery aka #LexieSpells by S. Usher Evans
  • Fear the Drowning Deep by Sarah Glenn Marsh
  • The Touched Saga: The Caress of Fate by Elisa S. Amore

About Aubrie L. Nixon- Indie Author Demon Extraordianire

Posted in Author intros, Books at 8:49 PM by Rockin' Rita

I am super duper beyond excited for this author and my partnership with her! That’s right I said PARTNERSHIP!!! More details to come on all the goods later but to wet your whistles, I decided to introduce you to her.*

Aubrie L. Nixon plays mom to the cutest demon topside. She is married to the hottest man in the Air Force. When she isn’t writing she is daydreaming about hot brooding anti-heroes and sassy heroines. She loves Dragon Age, Game of Thrones and reading all things fantasy. She runs a local YA/NA bookclub with 3 chapters, and over 200 members. Her favorite thing to 14925798_10154815832767176_2060059593297110834_ndo is eat, and her thighs thank her graciously for it. If she could have dinner with anyone living or dead it would be Alan Rickman because his voice is the sexiest sound on earth. He could read the dictionary and she would be enthralled. Her current mission in life is to collect creepy taxidermy animals because she finds them cute and hilarious. She resides just outside of Washington DC.
